Television, Film and New Media

WELCOME TO TFM AT SDSU!

For more than four decades, the nationally recognized SDSU Television and Film Department has provided superior training in all areas of television and film production for the future professional. State-of-the-art equipment, outstanding internship opportunities, an impressive faculty with ties to the industry, dramatic location filming sites, and proximity to the Los Angeles/Hollywood industry epicenter make the department a prime choice for the serious student.

From screenwriting to post production, students can select their areas of specialization. TFM offers a creative, collaborative environment in which directing students direct their own films and select peers, specializing in cinematography, design, editing, and other production components, for their production teams. The alliance with the Theatre Department offers cross-arts collaborations and an acting talent pool for emerging filmmakers, further enhancing the department's goal: fostering technical and artistic excellence and sending students from campus to industry ready to work.

Collectively, our student body produces over 40 films per semester, making our school one of the most productive on the West coast. We hope you will attend our student film festivals that are held twice a year, occuring at the end of each semester. Faculty, staff, students, friends, and the public join in for a night of film festival fun! From dramas to documentaries, animations to comedies - we have it all! Our students have won awards from various film festivals including: Temecula, Jay Sanders, CSU Media Arts, San Diego Women Film Festival, Best Fest, and Palm Springs Festival of Shorts, just to name a few!

Whether you want to be a director, writer, cinematographer, or editor, this hands-on degree will give you the skills to make it in the real world. Of course, help is always available. The TFM faculty and staff are here to answer your questions and to help make your educational experience a rewarding one.
