Q: Where is and how do I get to the theatre?
A: Located at the Performing Arts Plaza on the campus of San Diego State University in San Diego, the Don Powell Theatre and the Experimental Theatre are at 5500 Campanile Dr. (92182-7601).  For directions and information about parking, click here.

Q: Can I get to the theatre using public transportation?
A: The San Diego Trolley stops at SDSU just a stroll away from the Performing Arts Plaza.  For more information on the Trolley/Bus, or to personalize your trip, please contact MTS: Southern San Diego County: (619) 233-3004, Northern San Diego County: (800) 266-6883, or visit www.sandiegocommute.com

Q: Where should I park?
A: Parking at SDSU during a performance can be challenging.  We suggest you arrive early to avoid any delay. For list of parking areas near the Performing Arts Plaza, please refer to the pdf below.

Click HERE for a pdf map and directions to parking on campus.

Q: How early should I get to the theatre?
A: We suggest you arrive up to an hour prior to show time. Please review your tickets for your exact show time.  Should you need to pick up tickets from the Box Office Will Call window please arrive at the Will Call window no later than ½ hour prior to the performance.

Q: When do they start seating?
A: Seating usually starts approximately 30-minutes prior to the start of a show. For some performances, seating may begin even earlier, but 30-minutes prior is a safe estimate.  Please plan to arrive early enough to walk across the campus from the parking lots.  We suggest at least 15 minutes for a nice leisurely stroll across our beautiful campus.

Q: Can I be seated if I’m late?
A: You WILL be seated if you arrive late. However, please note that some shows require a “seating hold” at the start of the performance. If a show has a seating hold, ushers will seat latecomers after this time period (usually 5-15 minutes).   The late seating is at the discretion of the management and is based upon the director’s choice for interrupting the performance, as well as the safety of the actors and audience.

Q: What if someone needs to reach me during the show?
A: Guests cannot be paged. While cell phones must be silenced during performances, it is still possible for people to leave messages to your phone. Alternatively, in the Don Powell Theatre you may leave your exact seat location (including section, row and seat number – all listed on your ticket) with someone you believe may need to contact you. Then, that person may call our House Manager at (619) 594-2548, to leave their message and your seat location. At an appropriate break (typically, intermission or at the conclusion of the performance), an usher will attempt to deliver your message to you. However, without the specific seat locations, no one will be able to provide this assistance.  The Experimental Theatre has general seating so we are not able to assist you with messages.

Q: Does the theatre have wheelchair access?
A: Yes. The both the Don Powell Theatre and the Experimental Theatre offers companion seating and seating for patrons with wheelchairs. Please contact the Performing Arts Box Office at (619) 594-6884 for prices and availability.

Q: What should I wear?
A: Theatre is fun – a great time to dress up! Still, we like our patrons to be comfortable, and this is San Diego. Dressing up might mean a business suit or dress for some, while for others it may mean a sport jacket or nice pants outfit. For still others, it may mean a clean pair of jeans or nice shorts and a polo shirt. Any of these wardrobe choices are perfect!
