DENITSA BLIZNAKOVA
Faculty Costume Designer

Denitsa Bliznakova, M.F.A in Costume Design from Brandeis University and B.F.A. in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design, is happy to join the educational team at San Diego State University. She has designed costumes for productions at A Noise Within, Falcon Theatre, New Repertory Theatre, Long Wharf Theatre, and the Williamstown Theatre Festival, amongst others. Notable shows at the Falcon Theatre have included Happy Days, featuring Joey McIntyre, Wrong Turn at Lungfish featuring Hector Elizondo, and Johnny Boy featuring Tony Danza. The production of Diva at the Williamstown Theatre Festival featured Bebe Neuwirth, Eric Bogosian, Kurtwood Smith, and John Michael Higgins. Notable directors that Denitsa has worked with include: Garry Marshall, Gordon Edelstein, and Michael Greif.

Design credits for other media include the music videos Stars by Switchfoot, Bubble Bounce by Bigg Steele, the short films Midgetman, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, and La Cerca, and the feature films Johnny Got His Gun featuring Benjamin McKenzie, and Undercover Kids.

As an assistant designer, Denitsa has worked at the Santa Fe Opera, Long Wharf Theatre, and Williamstown Theatre Festival. She also interned for Law & Order and has either supervised or consulted on productions at the San Diego Opera, Quixote Studios, and the Soul Dance, Fusion of Space and Mind production at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London.

Awards and honors nominated and received include: Ruth Morley Costume Design award, USITT Young Designers Forum presenter, Academy of Television Arts and Sciences competition finalist, and two Golden Thimble Awards and Designer of the year nomination at Parsons School of Design.
