RICHARD TAYLOR
Lecturer

TV/Film Production

Richard Taylor has taught several courses in TFM, including film production, video production and cultural studies.

Taylor is Production Manager at Cox Channel 4, overseeing the production of local programming. He is also executive producer of Forefront and Salute to Teachers, and directs live sports coverage on Channel 4. Taylor came San Diego from Alaska, where he was Assistant Professor of Communication at the University of Alaska Anchorage, chairing the video/film division. He was also in charge of production for a statewide satellite TV network serving 280 rural communities. During his years on the Last Frontier he traveled extensively, producing news and feature programming in communities large and small. He produced the popular and acclaimed series, Jay Hammond’s Alaska, profiles of Alaskan characters and spectacular places, hosted by the former Governor.

Taylor has received many awards for his productions, including Emmys from both the Northwest and Southwest regions, American Film Festival, New York Film Festival, CINE, Alaska Broadcasters Association, San Diego Press Club, Los Angeles Radio and TV News Association, John Muir Medical Film Festival and the Western Educational Society for Telecommunications.

Taylor received his B.A. in philosophy from Antioch College. He studied art, theater and photography in Norway, returning to the U.S. to receive an M.A. in film from Stanford University. He also studied the history of local television in the American Culture Ph.D. program at Bowling Green State University.
