Steve Montal has worked with over 85 film festivals for the last fifteen years in programming, jury and educational seminars. Montal's work has taken him throughout the world to festivals including Sydney, Toronto, Berlin, Stockholm, Croatia, Belgium, Colombia and Slamdance.

Montal is the Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Caucho Technology, Inc., a firm based in La Jolla, California that produces Java server software for education, government and corporate clients including the Toronto Stock Exchange, EBay, CNet, the American Red Cross and Evite. Montal and his business partner have led Caucho to become a global leader in the Java business world with over 4500 customers.

Montal has taught university film, television, new media and communications courses since 1992. Montal's educational experience includes serving as the founding associate dean of the North Carolina School of the Arts School of Filmmaking, which has become one of the top film schools in the United States. Montal also served on the faculty and founded the Graduate Film Producing Program at Chapman University.

Montal served as Director of Educational and Special Program Development for the American Film Institute (AFI), where he developed national K-12 education programs. During his tenure at AFI, Montal developed Silverdocs, a joint venture between AFI and Discovery Communications that resulted in the launch of a major documentary film festival in Washington DC.

Montal wrote a chapter on film festivals and markets for "The Movie Business Book," which was published in 2004 by Prentice-Hall. Montal's producing work includes Viva Terra Viva, an international television concert made in collaboration with UNICEF and the 1992 United Nations Conference on the Environment and Development. This event, featuring John Denver, Roger Moore and Paul Winter, was broadcast from the Amazon to 500 million viewers in 117 countries.

A graduate with academic honors from Yale University and the UCLA Graduate School of Film and Television, Montal serves on the Board of Directors for several non-profit organizations including the Kansas City Filmmakers Foundation and the Cinema Entertainment Alliance.

Montal has a number of publications and awards including the Medal from the City of Brussels, Belgium awarded in 1999 and a Special Congressional Recognition awarded in 2004.
