A prolific and internationally recognized filmmaker, Tim Powell has established himself in the film and television industries as a creative talent and technical innovator. Garnering several awards and nominations
for national Emmys, Tellys, Cine Golden Eagle and Ace awards, Tim's films have been featured in film festivals and broadcast on nearly every major television network and cable channel. He has produced, directed, edited and shot films and documentaries for National Geographic Television, Discovery Channel, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, the Learning Channel, MTV, VH1, USA, TBS, Discovery Health, Travel Channel and Outdoor Life Network. He has written six screenplays, sold or optioned four, and has developed sit-com formats for Paramount, Warner Brothers and NBC Productions. His work includes innovative exploration in the field of Multimedia and interactive television and his 35mm feature film, "Riding With James Dean," pioneered a new film time-code process that reduces costs for independent filmmakers. Tim also wrote and directed programs for Walt Disney Home Video and worked on several network television specials for Disney.
Specializing in adventure production, Tim has shot award-winning films and documentaries all over the world including China, Tibet, Venezuela, Belize, Nepal, Uganda, Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Costa Rica, New Zealand, Morocco, South Africa, Fiji and Borneo. Tim also worked for the National Geographic Explorer series for five years directing host wraps and acting as a producer/director on films featured in the award-winning series. Current projects include a documentary on Egypt's Great Pyramid and a historical documentary series.
Tim has a Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Instructional Design for Online Learning. He has a Masters Degree in Film Production. He has taught film and television production courses for the last 12 years at San Diego State University, Loyola Marymount University and UCLA. |
